On Tuesdays during term time and between 10 and 11.30am Stepping Stones sees anywhere between thirty and forty toddlers letting off steam and having the time of their lives. Whilst you’d struggle to call it a haven of peace, Stepping Stones is run by a team of highly trained and dedicated volunteers who between them do all they can to provide a safe, happy and relaxed environment.
When it comes to facilities Stepping Stones lacks for nothing. Outside for summer mornings there’s a sandpit. In the main room there are toys and games – everything from a playhouse and a slide to bikes and trikes, whilst next door in the Corner Room (where it’s often much quieter) there are giant cushions for the youngsters to snuggle into whilst mum, dad, granny or whoever reads them a story.
The sessions always finish in our Sports Hall with Circle Time where everyone comes together to celebrate birthdays and to sing the sort of songs that many of us remember from our own childhood.
On an even more practical side we have excellent nappy changing facilities, and throughout the morning there are snacks and drinks for young and dare I say “old” alike.
