Leeds and Moortown Furniture Store. In 1986, Hilary Willmer, a member here at MBC, and several of her friends got together and began collecting unwanted items of household furniture: beds, chairs, tables, wardrobes etc and giving them away to people in need.
Starting off using an old horse box for transport and cellars and garages for storage, today the Leeds and Moortown Furniture Store operates from an 8,000 square foot warehouse in Seacroft and in the last full year delivered 4,079 separate items of furniture to 865 individuals and/or families in and around Leeds.
As 2026 marks the Store’s 40th anniversary the trustees are not only planning a number of special events but are in the process of putting together a timeline which, knowing first hand of the many ups and downs the charity has faced, will I’m sure make interesting reading.
