MAF is the world’s largest humanitarian air operator. For over 80 years, their pilots and engineers have flown light aircraft over some of the planet’s most punishing terrain — jungle, mountain, swamp and desert — to reach communities that would otherwise be cut off entirely. They currently enable more than 1,500 aid, development and mission organisations to deliver medical care, emergency relief and long-term development to places no road could ever reach.
What makes MAF’s story so compelling is where it began. Born out of the aftermath of World War II, MAF’s founders took to heart a simple but radical idea: that the skills of flying and engineering, once used for war, could instead be turned toward peace — delivering help, hope and healing rather than harm. Eighty years on, that founding vision still guides every flight.
Their aircraft carry relief workers, doctors, pastors, school supplies, food and medicine — cargo that, in the world’s most isolated places, can only arrive safely and speedily by air. It’s often the difference between a community receiving help in time, or not at all.
