The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word Mission no less then eighteen different ways, these include: a mission to the moon – a journey into space. A strategic mission – when say a charity or a business restructures its way of working.
Or in perhaps a more familiar setting referring to the word mission as in sending individuals or groups to spread a particular set of beliefs.
Well, here at MBC we embrace mission in each and every sense of the word. For example: through our Warm Space Beacon café and the Lord’s Pantry which meet on a Monday morning and distribute food etc. to anyone in need.
Through both the financial and practical support we provide to churches in Romania.
Through Lunch Club, a weekly get-together for Seniors. Through our staunch support of BMS (the Baptist Missionary Society).
By having five of our members serve as trustees at the Leeds and Moortown Furniture Store, a furniture reuse charity that began life here at MBC forty years ago.
Or it could be by simply tithing a percentage of our income to a raft of causes both here at home and overseas.
You see, that’s the thing about Moortown being a Baptist church. We are autonomous, in other words we don’t have a central governing authority. We, through our Members’ Meetings are a body of people united by a shared faith in Jesus Christ which, guided by His Spirit and through prayer and reflection has the freedom to decide its own way forward.
