Beacon and Lord’s Pantry

Home Beacon and Lord’s Pantry

No one can put an exact date to when MBC’s Beacon Café started, but what we can say is that however long ago it was it’s very different now to then.

On that first Monday morning no more than a handful of people sat around a tea trolley in our foyer sharing small talk. Now, between 10am and 12noon and from here, there and everywhere upwards of eighty people regularly pack into our Sanctuary to chat about this, that and the other while enjoying some delicious coffee time treats.

Running alongside Beacon is the Lord’s Pantry, one of MBC’s age-old features that too has changed enormously.

Once the Lord’s Pantry was simply a kitchen cupboard in which what might best be described as the “bare essentials” were stored. Today it’s a well-stocked source of things that most of us take for granted: tinned and packeted food, toiletries and cleaning materials, all that within certain limits are given away to people in need.

Finishing off with an optional and very short time of prayer, Beacon Café is for many the highlight of their week.
